Test Kits

The Radon Test Kit map represents radon test kits sold to U.S. residents between January 2023 through June 2025 as purchased through the National Radon Program Services (NRPS) www.sosradon.org website. Engineering Extension, in the College of Engineering at K-State University, has run NRPS since 2009, providing direct public education and technical assistance on radon for U.S. residents by cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Radon Chamber

The KSU Radon Chamber map shows chamber service type by client location for the period from Jan 2022 – April 2024. The KSU Radon Chamber is the only U.S. university-based quality assurance/quality control laboratory (QA/QC). The KSU Radon Chamber was migrated to the control of Engineering Extension in 2018 in conjunction with the closure of the Western Regional Radon Training Center at the University of Colorado- Colorado Springs in 2018.  The laboratory provides direct fee for service QA/QC services for the professional radon industry, including 1) device performance testing (DPT’s) for national professional radon measurement credentials, 2) spiking services of radon measurement devices for large building radon assessment projects and 3) radon device calibration services for a small number of continuous radon monitors (CRM’s). The K-State Radon Chamber also does contract work for U.S. military environmental contractors around the world.

About Radon Program

The educational and technical assistance portion of the Kansas Radon Program (KRP) has been housed in Engineering Extension since 1997. The KRP provides direct radon education and technical assistance to Kansas residents via the state 800 number and throughwww.kansasradonprogram.org. The program also provides professional education to the Kansas radon industry, as well as professional education to other radon stakeholders such as realtors and health professionals.
